What an ending this is shaping up to be! π
What!? π€― All three playoff games so far decided by a game-ending field goal!? L.A. should have owned it, but Tom Brady made it a real game in the second half. What an ending! Go Rams! π
Ugh, so painful. Special teams lost us that game. Congrats to the 49ers for sucking less. Crazy that both #1 seeds lost on a last-second field goal. π
Rookie kicker. Second-year quarterback. 1st playoff win in 30 years last week. Headed to division championship game. What a season for the Bengals! π
Yes!! Go Bengals! They controlled almost the whole game. How fitting that an interception led to the field goal for the win. π
Big man touchdown!! Go Chiefs! π
Mike Tomlin: βDonβt blink. If youβre a blinker, cut your eyelids off.β ππ
What an incredible ending! Early on, looked like it wasnβt even going to be a game. So sad to end like it did. But congrats 49ers! π π₯³
Bengals! First playoff win in over 30 years! And itβs won on an interception. ππ€©
What an ending! Congrats Georgia!! Such a close game the whole time and then Georgia busts open to end it. Glad I let the 9yo stay up instead of going to bed at 19-18. Fitting that the defense wins it. So fun! π
This game is the most adrenaline Iβve felt this season. π³π€―π

My wife and 3yo were drawing together, and my wife drew this picture.
3yo: βWhat is that?β
Wife: βWell, it was going to be a frog.β

What a fun gold medal game! π π₯ πΊπΈ

Greenfield vs. Brownfield
I came across a fantastic article today from Austin Kleonβs weekly newsletter that he wrote called βThe pirate gardenerβ. Itβs worth reading in full.
In it, he shares that Brian Eno suggests that artists can be divided into either farmers or cowboys. Then Dave Hickey gave a different spin on the same idea, classifying people as either farmers or pirates.
Austin challenged the idea that we can define people by those categories:
This got me wondering, as I often do, about nouns and verbs. Maybe it isnβt a question of being a farmer or a pirate, but whether youβre farming or pirating. Maybe theyβre two different artistic modes that we operate under.
This made me think of a corollary in software engineering. Projects can be classified as either greenfield or brownfield. Often, software engineers have a strong preference one way or the other, and shape their careers accordingly. But that is not who they are.
It is interesting to think about how much our preferences define us. We attach labels to ourselves, and to others, that we call our βidentity.β Iβm leery of reducing anyone to a single part of their life. People are complex beings. We need to acknowledge that in ourselves and recognize that in others.
My wife made up a color matching game which our 3yo loved.
Our 22mo girl started playing and put things wherever. My wife said, βGood job! Youβre doing it.β
The 3yo got right up in her face. βNo. You are not doing well.β
Then she got mad and trashed the game.

What a fun game! I love that a block by Gobert won it. Go Jazz! π
